The Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice (SLJ) is a small, law-themed, non-charter public high school located in downtown Brooklyn. Its mission is to prepare their students, many of whom come from underserved communities across the city and will be the first in their family to attend college, for success in college and career. This theme reflects their conviction that educating is in itself an act of social justice, and that learning can be amplified when done through the lens of the law, with a focus on analysis, critical thinking, and persistent, reasoned questioning.

The majority of our students join SLJ with numeracy and literacy skills below grade level, yet we refuse to let these be barriers to success. With every graduating senior applying to and being accepted into college, we have a lot to celebrate. SLJ alumni have earned places at esteemed institutions like Williams, Cornell, Georgetown, Syracuse, Howard, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, and Yale University! All of our students receive college advising, essay writing workshops and financial aid application support to help them reach their goals. Many will be first-generation college attendees, and we couldn't be prouder of all their hard work! In addition, our dedicated staff work with local, national and international partners to provide students with access to unique and enriching educational, professional and cultural experiences.

As a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, the Adams Street Foundation (ASF) relies on the support of our generous sponsors to enable ASF to provide this critical personalized college counseling to each and every student at SLJ.

Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant difference!
